Speaking of religion, I saw a 20/20 show last week about Pastor Benny Hinn. No Ovations in the band that I could see. But he was pulling off some pretty cool miracles. Good stage presence also. The DT haircut turned me off a little, but you gotta look past those things. Dave

I saw Mel on a talk show recently and he was discussing the recut version of the Passion. He edited out some of the blood and gore in hopes that those who objected to it, or couldn't stomach it would go to see the new version. Yep - no alternate endings ...

As an ordained minister, I get very nervous when people like Benny Hinn have the presumption to beleive they can armwrestle God into some miracles because the cameras are running, and we need a good show tonight...it's very misguided to think we can demand goodies from God on demand (and yes, I'm an orthodox, conservative, evangelical and somewhat charismatic Christian myself). Anytime "religion" is being done for TV ("on demand"), I'm concerned about the underlying motives.

Okay, I'll get down off my soapbox now...if Paul B. would care to respond, I'm listening (I know Paul has much mroe experience with seeing God's work of healing in the church than I have...)

Mikey:

I agree. Do I believe that God does miracles and answers the prayers of His people? Yes, every day. I have seen Him work in ways that are ... well ... miraculous. God works on His schedule though, and for His purposes and glory -- not simply when someone decides it is time to whip up a bunch of miracles and healings to make good TV - and big donations ...

I worked for years for a nationwide Christian network and although many good things went on, there were many things that were very troublesome. I find the answer to the problems of Christian television (or so-called Christian Evangelists) to be extremely simple: STUDY THE WORD OF GOD FOR YOURSELF! If those who profess to believe actually educate themselves on what God has said then the scammers that are on TV will loose their financial support and they will fade away. It's not the wolves in sheep’s clothing that bothers me; it's those who blindly follow them.

Bentman, you got that right!

I work in the senior sector of the market and it kills me to see the old folks sending in money to a TV huckster when they can't afford to buy their medicine or put decent food on the table!

I am sure that not all TV evangelists are fakes but Bentman is right study the Word of God for yourself and He will lead you in the truth and the truth will set you free.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6

Sometimes praying does bring miracles. Like today on 17 I prayed "Sweet Jesus get that ball over the water" and it skipped once and went up on the bank. Almost made me feel bad about all the impure thoughts I had on 15 when the ball went into the palmettos, deeeeep into the palmettos.

Hi,

Wasn't sure I could add anything to the above but I'll try.

1. I have seen God work out some pretty amazing things through music that is offered up to Him in praise. He truly inhabits the praises of His people.

2. This have NOTHING to do with the style rather more with the musician's intent.

3. I've never found a box big enough to put God in. So I never tried to presume He would always pop up when I wanted Him to. He usually
comes when invited not demanded.

Hope this hasen't caused this thread to wander off course. I want to thank MWoody for taking the time to start this poll. The more we get to know about each other we will focus on our similarities, Not our differences.

If W-2 was playing a Taylor, he wouldn't be in the palmettos.

What is this "Recut" version they have been advertising? Anybody heard what is supposed to be different?
I'm not sure, but have heard they were coming out with a version that was slightly less graphic to enable it to be seen by a younger audience. I have not seen it, so I'm not sure just how much would need to be toned down. I'm sure the original still falls short of what actually happened.

No, no! It's been recut and new scenes added so that it serves the dual purpose of documenting the end of Jesus' life, as well as providing the supporting back-story for Dan Brown's novels.

Fortunately Dan Brown has nothing to do with this new version. Here is an article if you're interested in knowing why it was recut.

If you'd like to hear more on Dan Brown read this article.
