I have been looking for a woodbox and may have found a potentially interesting one on ebay, but missed the deadline to take it at the minimum bid. However, I have been in contact with the owner and he would sell it off ebay. I am not sure if this is a prudent action as the ebay buyer protection will be lackingm though I would probably use a credit card that has some safeguards. The seller is a regular retail music store and it looks like they dump some of their slow moving guitars on ebay, and he is not sure if manufacturers warranty would still apply as he had it in the store since 2011. Please let me know your thoughts and expereinces about such transactions. Thanks.

I would never buy a guitar I couldn't hold in my hands first, except for the ones I buy from folks here. I know I can trust folks like Damon and Patch and a bunch of others. But think about it - if this guitar has been hanging in the store for the past three plus years AND he doesn't think the warranty still applies, there must be something wrong with it. If it were me, I would wait until I found something I liked in a brick and mortar store or even a pawn shop.

I do buy things off of evilBay... Most of my guitars came from there.
But I fully understand Alison's feelings about playing before you buy.
That is one of the advantages of the Ovation guitar...
Consistency in quality and sound... So they are a better guitar to buy online.
This also applies the buying electric guitars.
Also other things that are not as subjective as guitar tone/feel.

If this Seller is a "Store" of some kind, they can send you an actual invoice or bill.
Then you can pay through PayPal or with a Credit Card and have some protection.

Find out where the store is and have somebody here go over and check it out for you.

The store is in Quebec and I don't think I know anyone in the area. Guitar is Guild DM-50 Standard (not bluegrass special) supposedly built in NH. I definitely would prefer to play before I buy ...

do i put my money on red? or black? or green .

i bought two adamas a gibson les paul s.g.custom shop an american strat and two epiphone casino's off of people on e-bay but i talked to all of them on the phone ( not e-mail ) to get a feel of how well they seem to know what their selling and how educated they are on the guitars they are selling.
i got very lucky and all of the purchases worked out very well for me.
i want to know if their are any nicks dings flaws action ect.ect, let them know what you are expecting before you commit to buying it.

just remember besides the o.f.c. and alpep we are starting to run out of trusted legitimate places to buy o's from.

i don't know how good e-bays buyer protection works but if is good have him list it for a buy it now for you and you can get the e-bay buyer protection.

it is a crap shoot and a roll of the dice. good luck on what you do . GWB

I've sold a ton of guitars on e bay
probably way more via my website.
most people were satisfied.
it is hard to please everyone.
the question I hate the most is what does the guitar sound like.
good action for me is horrible for you.
comfortable neck for me is horrible for you
you get the picture.
most ovations are very consistent in their specs so there are not many issues
