I'm looking at a 1612-4 Custom Balladeer from the late 70s and a 90s model L717 Legend. Both are in really good condition, but I don't know which to target. Which would you want? And how much is each worth (fair market value-wise)? Or maybe I should say, how much would you pay for one?

Nuthin' for the L717... I'm right-handed! :p

But I've got a left-handed strato-what-is-it if you're interested... No! Really! What is it?

Looks like a "lefty that plays righty". You really own that thing?

It was left in an apartment where I work. I saw it originally during the "30 Day wait" before disposing of a tenants belongings...

One of the other workers got it, tried to re-string it righty (and generally screwed-it-up)...
I inherited it, but I cannot get it to work.
Besides the tuning machine that somehow got broken (everything worked fine when I packed-it-up at the apartment), I cannot get it to make music. The little red LED lights-up... But that's about it.

Three of the switches control pups. One of the knobs turns-on the LED and is probably main volume. But without it making noise, I cannot figure-out the rest.

I believe that it has a stereo output plug...

It is not a Fender... No one at the manufacturer wanted to put their name on it....

I really enjoy my 1612-4. In fact I brought it down with me to the Keys for a few days. I 'stole' it for $150 but would have paid more!

Can't help ya on the other model.

I'd go with the CBalladeer as well.

It's a solid, reliable WorkHorse.

Lefty,

Both sound like good guitars, but I'd be targeting the Legend myself if for no other reason than the bracing. A '90s Legend is gonna give you an A braced top on a deep bowl, and that combination is hard to beat sound-wise -- it's classic Ovation tone. I'm not sure what type of bracing is on a '70s Custom Balladeer (X maybe?), nor am I familiar with what they typically sound like, but a lot of '70s era Ovations don't sound so great acoustically because the tops were very heavily braced back then.

Good luck with which ever one you choose.
