Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I just ordered and received the new video "From Wood to Singing Guitar", a film of Wayne Henderson's shop where he crafts his guitars and some history of the area's music and musicians. I was at the shop getting a new saddle made for my 1948 Martin D-28 one of the days the film crew was there doing the documentary. When they left for lunch, Wayne made the saddle form bone, completed the adjustment to my guitar and then he sat down and played it for nearly an hour (Wayne has a different schedule: he sleeps till 11am as he is usually up until 2 or 3am working at the shop building guitars. Therefore he doesn't have lunch until nearly 5pm)...
The film crew arrived back and started filming Wayne playing my guitar...fast forward to the new video: halfway through the 4th chapter, I heard this beautiful guitar voice: like a mother knows her children's voices, I knew it was my D-28...Then the picture cuts to a close up of Wayne's hands playing my guitar...wow, does it sound great...
Then I looked at the back of the video's cover box: there is a picture of Wayne playing my guitar and being filmed by the crew...the very same instant they were filming the piece that is in the film. I was/am thrilled to have my most precious guitar in a film of this historical significance...The films are available from www.appalshop.org and on eBay: they are set to be released this Thursday evening at a concert of Wayne and his friends and a showing of the film at the Rex Theatre in Galax, Virginia at 7pm. I plan to go but I never expected this...
:D  |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Went to Wayne's Shop yesterday; Mondays are usually quiet there and we have a chance to talk...he autographed the dust jacket from my DVD and I thanked him for making my guitar a star...he laughed and gave me free tickets to Thursdays premier at the Rex...he was doing some awesome abalone inlay on several headstocks...he really is an amazing fellow... |
