ok, I know the body on a UK2 is a polyester finish. Does anybody happen to know if the neck has the same coating?

Thanks

I'm not sure the body has a polyester finish, but someone else can address that.

The necks were standard (in the sense of construction) necks, and I'm guessing maybe a better twist on the question would be... Did they use the same finish on the Urelite bodies as they used elsewhere?

Thanks Miles and Beal, much appreciated.

The bodies having a polyester coating is not in question as long as you believe the original UK2 owners manual, which I have no reason to doubt. Take a little sandpaper to the inside of one of the pickup cavities and take a whiff. It has that characteristic styrene smell.

I was hoping the necks would be a little easier to deal with though. My latest refugee has a nasty spot on the neck where the original coating is opaque and I'd like to be able to evaluate if there's any real damage or if it's all in the finish.

Oh well. The adventure continues.

Just to add a little disclaimer to those reading. Do this with extreme care as exposing the foam core of the UKII body is not a good thing.

I just got my UK2 neck back from the Ovation people - Just a GREAT JOB - Mine is a 1981 Uk2 and is in mint condition body-wise and now neck. My advise is to send the neck to the Ovation factory in Conn. if you want the job done right.
