I'm still trying to identify the age of my old 6-string Balladeer. I reattached the peghead on the guitar a couple of years ago. My estimate is that is from the '70's, but I may be all wet. It has the Ovation logo at the top, black lacquered background, and "Balladeer", in script, vertically, between the stringposts. It has a black lacquered neck and ebony fretboard, also. There is a blue label inside the pebbled , deep bowl, but no serial number. Now, BCastle, I see you have a 1981 1111. Does yours have the black peghead with "Balladeer" written on it? I'm beginning to think mine is the only one made with that combination!
On other fronts, the half-bridge repair on the CC267 was very successful! Only took me two days to fabricate the clamp for a Celebrity Deluxe bridge gluing. Kinda like doing a colon repair, if you understand the procedure (sorry, an unfortunate & lugubrious analogy).

I would guess that your guitar may date back to 1966-68. Can you post a pic? Except for the early years, Ovation didn't write things like "Balladeer" or "Deluxe" on the peghead between the posts.

Nope, mine says nothing on the outside but "Ovation". The label just says model 1111. It's kinda off-white (I'm sure it was once white), and has a black shiny finish on the neck.

Ok, the black neck says it was painted. Probably a Balladeer from the 1970's. Does it have a truss rod cover on the peghead?

Yep, on the truss cover. I had to make a replacement out of aluminum, since the original got lost before I performed the repair. I tried to post an image for examination by The Membership, but I guess I've got some incompetency issues. I sent an image directly to Paul. Maybe he knows something more than I do.

Paul, thanks for your perusal & speculation. So, we're deferring to Mr T & The Big Kahuna, eh?! Why not?! I appreciate all your help. Just for the edification of The Membership, here's P.I.'s response to my picture I sent yesterday:

"I don't know what to make of your guitar. It's almost as if you have a 1980's body (the label inside is from that time) but a 1960's neck and headstock. I'm going to forward this to Paul Templeman and maybe Bill Kaman and see what they say."

Kinda' like my CBalladeer.
It's a '76 neck on a '96 body.
(Much thanks to the grafting surgeons in New Hartford).
