Location: Georgia USA | I know some of you know all there is to know about the solids.
When I bought my Deacon from Sam, he said (as you already know) that he'd bought all of Ovation's leftover bodies and parts, and that when it came, there were two GLOSS BLACK Deacon bodies. One he used to build the guitar I have, along with a beautiful matching deluxe neck and schaller bridge. These were all original, new-old parts that he used to build a custom Deacon, now only 3 years old.
Here's my question:
How many gloss black Deacons are there? This is a Deacon body with a smooth finish and not the stipple texture of a Breadwinner. It's a custom factory finish, but I haven't seen any others.

i have an original "Deacon"; it has a mahogany body and neck,ivory bound fingerboard, diamond shaped enlays and individual gold-plated saddles; the stipple painted guitars were 'breadwinners, not deacons; there was also a "Custom Deacon" model with a different body shape than the deacon or breadwinner; perhaps your guitar was one of those...there are members who know more about the original breadwinner/deacon than i, so just keep asking and you will probably find your answer..

Location: Scotland | I've seen a small handful of non-standard factory finishes including a couple of non-spackled gloss white Breadwinners. There won't be many black non-spackled Deacons and it's posible that the 2 bodies Sam had were the total production.
Steve, the "different" body shape was not a custom Deacon, but was the "Breadwinner Limited" This was basically an attempt to reduce parts inventory after the Breads & Deacons were about to be discontinued. |

| hi paul, yeah, i remember seeing one somewhere but the body shape was different than the deacon/breadwinner; i thought it was a custom deacon of some kind because it had the same clear finish over mahogany as my deacon had...

Location: Georgia USA | By the way, I've seen one of those gloss white Breadwinners. Sam has one in his collection.
And Sam assured me that my black guitar is definitely a Deacon. So it may well be the only black Deacon ever assembled. That's what I was trying to determine.
And the owner of the Breadwinner fanpage has a gray/black sunburst Breadwinner Limited. It looks like a cool guitar, except I think the limiteds are just ugly.
