See we do agree: great pic Patch! :D ;)

It's also the reason some people like me wouldn't want to own it. To each their own. In the end it's still a guitar and the couple that I've played sounded pretty nice.

Please note, I did write "those that appreciate the same" in reference to our heritage, not the guitar! I was just expressing my attractions to the Patriot, and feel that Mike and Tony were doing the same. Day-um, if we condemn others for not having the same 'tastes', then all the efforts mentioned were all for naught. Besides, then we'd probably wouldn't have the plethora of brands, models and configurations. Hey, I don't like mustard greens, but my brother still loves me...

We're all adults and usually recognize each others' right to our opinions. Some like it, some don't. It's as simple as that. Also, in my last post, I linked a nifty little emoticon saluting our vets and flag. I previewed it and it worked fine last night, but this morning some gremlin has turned it into an ad! I sincerely apologize for any confusion. Miles or Al, if you can, please delete that stupid thing from my post!

I'm not as sure it was a tribute as an attempt to sell guitars based on the bicentennial fever of the time. Not a criticism. I'd much rather buy a guitar as a tribute to the bicentennial than a tribute to John Lennon, which brings me to my point. One of my favorite guitars I've ever played was Dave's John Lennon reissue. I think the nutmeg color is great and the sound was fantastic. I passed on that one because I bought the 30thCL. I have no interest in it due to it's association with John Lennon, but only because I like the looks and sound. I figure that if the Patriot sounds and looks close to that guitar, and is a somewhat limited edition, the little stencil just adds a little flavor to a guitar I'd like to have. I would never have the stencil removed. It would defeat one of the purposes of the guitar.

Which is kinda stupid since Boston was founded in 1630, meaning that Boston was 346 years old in 1976... You could get Bicentennial Toilet Paper back then. (Which I guess shoulda been Leaves!)

Liberty Tree was refering to the Taylor. May have been from very old wood but (for me) it is still a Taylor. For Taylor buyers, a nice offering. We all have our opinions, as well as why we like a particular model. Personally, the only "flag" guitar I would get excited about is Samova's Greek flag guitar which I believe is one of three. Appreciation of this guitar is 1st the playability and "responsiveness". 2nd, a personal opinion or interest. I don't see it as "flag waving" even if I am the only one with an American flag in the neighborhood. If you don't like the guitar or the "stencil", then don't buy it or belittle or demean what some of us like. Again, the response by buyers when it was introduced influenced Ovation to create the Collectors series. The market for a guitar is made by the seller paying dollars, not non-buyers expressing opinions. As an aside, I have a non-FRG of the Lennon RI. Personally, I like the Patriot better (very subjective and maybe the age of the top).

It was a Gibson LP "Old Hickory" made from a tree that stood over Gen. Stonewall Jackson's gravesite. The tree fell during a storm and Gibson went after the wood. It was striking and the added history of the wood was interesting, being a bit of a civil war buff myself, but really expensive.
