This is the epitome of what Ovation is all about. -> Nay, the 2007BCS. I love that guitar. It is the pinnacle of Ovation engineering. -> Wait ... the 1537 is killer. Best one I've ever played and the most beautiful to boot. -> Hold on, I couldn't live without the Custom Legend 12. A top to die for. Sound too. Plus its got the Optima. -> Uh ... I forgot the electrics. I'm keeping the Deacon Deluxe 12. Too rare, too cool and plays like butter. -> Make that the mahogany Viper. It is the one guitar that always seems to wind up on my recordings. -> Oh wait ... the EA-68 Viper. Gotta have that. 16 frets clear is just the bomb. Glen Campbell plays one. So does Dan Shafer. -> Yipes. That reminds me. I have the EAB-68 Viper bass. In the Cherry Cherry Burst. I love that color. Everyone needs a bass. And the chicks all dig bass players, right? OK, keeper. -> Hang on. You know, the Josh White may be old and played a lot, but it is all original, in great shape, and it's got mojo oozing out of its mojo. And I can claim I play a manly-necked guitar. If it's provenance I should be looking at, this is the one. -> Or maybe not. The 1968 shiny Balladeer 12 has the coolest braz winged bridge. And it sounds like a choir of angels. I got to keep that one. -> You know, the one guitar I said I'd never let go is the 2000 Collectors. My favorite neck ... bar none. And oh so stunningly beautiful. So that's the one I must keep. -> Well, lemme think about this ... that K-1111 reissue is really opening up for me. There's something very special in that thing ... -> What am I thinking? The 1311, my very first Ovation, has been my trusty partner for 27 years ... longer than any of them others. -> OK. So I can let the 1969 1117 with the winged bridge go. No wait. I've got that one strung Nashville and it just sings. Everyone needs a Nashville guitar. Besides, the brochure from that year has Eric Clapton playing this exact guitar. I've got it. I can sell the 2171 Ultra. It's a great little guitar. Love the asian style sunburst with the bright red layer and the yellow layer. Sounds great with its solid top and contour bowl. The 5 piece neck looks and feels like a USA neck. It's the guitar that gets left out and banged on by anyone who comes around and it holds up no problem. But I could sell that one. If I had to. Was that the original question? Please don't get started on electrics or wooden ones.

Even though it has a number of terrible cracks in the wood and some crazing in the finish, the highs are wonderfully crisp and the lows are full and rich. It's a joy to play. I paid $250 for it in '83 and it sounds better than $3000 Martins I've played recently. When I go I'm taking it with me! :)

Ever since I first saw a pic of that guitar I have thought that it may be the most stunningly beautiful roundback to ever come out of the factory. I was never a fan of the red of the 47's and I love the blue of my OFC (ding) guitar, but that beige is was just done so RIGHT. If I could afford to have the factory build me just one guitar, that would probably be the template for it.....
