**Reposting - apparently the last post got corrupted and was no longer accessible.**

This guitar has been a real mystery for anyone that knows about Ovation acoustics, as to its exact origins. I know that there are a lot of one-offs out there and this could be a custom, but it could also just be a 'lesser' model.

The little info I have is that it was a prototype or pre-production model used in a promo photo shoot about 7+ years ago when DW owned Ovation. The guitar has no sticker and no serial to be found anywhere on the body. I haven't been able to find any similar photos of other guitars with this bird's eye maple mint burst finish, the binding, custom inlays, truss rod, and epaulets in this style, which are not veiny and are flush with the body. Regarding the lack of sticker, there's no sticker residue in the bowl and no evidence that there ever was one but who knows.

EDIT: The closest thing I could come up with was that this a 6778 LX of some sort however there's no neck binding.

Can any of you experts ID it? More detailed photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ehyYiyoNcYHVJxxU8

Thanks!

Just my guess and observations,

With the deep contour bowl it is some form of 2078LX, not 6778. The bling binding says "Custom Elite", but the bridge and truss rod cover are plain. The fret marker inlays say "custom shop".

No serial # stamped on the back of the headstock says USA custom shop. Either for a customer, for NAMM, or as a prototype.

My guess is a custom ordered instrument. Were it for NAMM they would likely have gone all out on the bling with carved bridge and truss rod cover, and binding on the neck.

I'm in the same camp. As I was told, it was made for a photo shoot. I wish I could find the actual ad where this specific one appeared. The actual photos may not have been ever used however.
