Been a long time since my last post - I took a bit of a hiatus from my Ovations. Took some time to explore and discover other guitars and eventually ended up with a nice Taylor 12 string and a beautiful Taylor PS 14ce. Sold off a few of my family I'm afraid, the one I regret the most was my FD14. Kept several though including my Book Elite a few other collector models that I just couldn't give up.

After stepping out on my girls for a while and investing in other higher end guitars I discovered that one thing is true. Nothing captures the sound and tonal qualities of Ovation either plugged or unplugged.

I thought it was about time to get back to the sound I like the most and just recently picked up the 50th Anniversary limited edition #45/50 and I just friggin love it. The gold epaulets on the black is stunning, and it plays easier and sounds better to me than the Taylor, which was 3 times the cost.

I'm playing more and enjoying it more than I have in a long time...Feels good to have a new O in the house!

Hi Dano! It looks like you've been registered since 2004! I took a detour into "woodbox only" thinking for a while, but came to my senses and joined the OFC back in 2012. Still haven't had a chance to play my 1678av50 waiting for me back in CA. I know what you mean about the Taylor comparison (especially in terms of $$$). Just wanted to add my "Welcome back!" to your post!

I've also ventured to the dark side and back. Of the 20ish guitars I've bought and sold over the years, about half were Ovations. In between were Martins, Larrivees, Breedlove, etc. All were beautiful but whenever I got the urge to play, I always picked up one of the Os. Currently have a gorgeous Martin on the 'Bay due to this phenomenon. Ever on the prowl for 'THE' guitar, I stopped into GC to kill some time the other day and found a used 1868. Played it, and even with Cretaceous-era strings, it sounded nice. Bought it, new strings, removed a few shims and I'm the happiest clam on the reef.
