OK....so for the O's with the large center hole design, which bracing pattern is considered to be the best design? And does anyone know what bracing pattern the Custom Legend 12 strings have? Hint: I'm trying to determine if the 12 string Custom Legend for sale now will have a tone that matches it's beautiful looks!

Thanks.

Jim

The bracing pattern alone won't tell you anything about the tone on a particular guitar. To further complicate matters, that 1658 for sale is rebuilt, so it's going to be different than an original from the vintage. But I think all of the 12's all had the same bracing, which is basically an A style with an extra cross brace to compensate for the extra tension from the 12 stings. Maybe one of the smart people here will know if the 12-fret 12's used different bracing than the 14 fretters.

With all that said, has anyone here ever played an Ovation 12-string (US) that didn't sound great? This is a serious question. Every Ovation 12 I've played has been excellent ... a few have been extra good, and there are some other brands that have knocked me out (Guild, McPherson, not to mention Adamas), but almost every Ovation 12 has had the same consistent great sound. Heads and shoulders above all the other popular consumer brands. There's no reason to believe this guitar for sale is any different.

Besides, most people hear guitars with their eyes. So this one ought to sound spectacular to just about everyone. Go for it.

1115/1615 Pacemaker, 1118/1618 Glen Campbell, and the 1158/1658 Custom Legend slotheads are listed as 'FAN' top bracing per the 1980 Catalog.

I've had a 1756 Legend 12 string since '05 and I think it sounds great!!! One day I'd like to hear (play) an Adamas 12 to compare.

Back in the early 80's a college friend had a dreadnought Guild 12 that sounded terrific. Its neck was a bit too large for me though.
