Any opinions on the 1624 unplugged. I have read the nice reviews about it plugged in but what about sans amplification? Thought and experiences appreciated.

So so. It's a shallow bowl with VT-8 bracing. Not the best combination. Still beats the snot out of a Godin, or Ovation Viper or Gibson Chet Atkins nylon string, unplugged. They are all meant to be plugged in......

Mine is not as loud or bright as an inexpensive Yamaha classical I have. It couldn't compete with steel strings in a jam session. But it's fine by itself and loud enough to annoy my wife in another room. It has much more unplugged volume than a hybrid solid-body nylon. The bowl on mine is about 4" deep at the soundhole, so it's not "super" shallow.

I wonder if all of them were VT bracing?

They can be used as a boomerang to abruptly silence annoying instrumentalists.
