Location: New York City | Greetings - I have 7 Ovations that I don't take out of my home studio. I would like to buy an Ovation to travel with when I go to the park or anywhere outdoors to just sit and play and enjoy. I want to be able to use the headphones while outdoors like I do with my Pocket Rocket. Does anyone know if I can do this with the CC54iPL and not have to use the Pocket Rocket? Also, how would you rate the playability? Action? Sound? I can get one new for $250.00. Please advise. Thanks in advance - Twobits |

Location: south east Michigan | For $250, anything that's just playable is money well spent.
And I take it this has the iDEA pre-amp as well? Unbelievable.
.
That said, you get what you pay for.
Except with Ovations where you get just a little more. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | You cannot use the headphones on the CC54i like your Pocket Rockit.
When using the headphones you can only hear the backing tracks and recorded MP3.
The actual amplified guitar does not play through the headphones.
It is an acoustic guitar, so you can still hear the guitar.
BUT! You can always plug your Pocket Rockit into the output jack and hear both the guitar and backing tracks.
As to Action, Sound, and Playability...
The Action on my CC54i is higher than I would like it to be...
And since it has a dovetail neck, I can only lower it so much.
It is still playable... Just not perfect.
Also the nut width is 1 5/8" whereas normal Ovations are 1 11/16"
It feels more like a skinny electric neck.
It sounds nice. Better than many similarly priced guitars.
The box of mine stated that it has a solid top.
The finish goes around the edges of the sound-hole so I will have to take their word for it.
When plugged-into my Roland CubeStreet the iDea preamp is actually louder than an OP-Pro.
So the preamp part of it has more Push, I guess.
If you are buying from a Brick-n-Mortar store, you can try before you buy...
And maybe compare a coupla of the same model side-by-side.
I got mine online, and with all my complaining it wasn't bad enough to return.
(Or it was Good Enough to Keep. Half-Empty/Half-Full)
Always remember that the iDea Module lists for $299 and you can use it in any of your other Ovations that take an OP-Pro series preamp. |

Location: Alabama | I bought mine from Sweetwater along with the "Nicer" plush case.I waited until the "Black" finish was down to the 199.00 price. This is my 2nd O The 1st was in 1973. My oldest son has advised me when I make out the "will" the 73 model goes to him. I did not own an amp sooooooo there was also an invesment for that,(keep it down the wife might hear) great guitar for the Idea electronics alone. |

Location: Seacoast NH | My wife just got me a black iDea for Christmas, and I was pleasantly surprised by the action and playability. Right out of the box (she had it shipped) the setup was virtually perfect, and I have had no issues. Doesn't have the projection or low end of my Elite deep bowl, but sounds decent, and is a breeze to play.
A note of advice on the preamp, keep many spare 9-volts on hand, the thing chews through them pretty fast. |

Location: SW Washington | I got my iDea last fall. The action was a little high, but with an hour or so of setup work (sanding one of the shims down, etc. I got the action to where it even plays better than my LX Elite. The sound unplugged is not bad, but plugged in, it RAWX! This is the one I just had that artwork done on so it is staying in my studio, but as soon as I can afford it, I plan on getting another to be my 'constant companion' guitar. I frequently give recommendations to parents of prospective students on what guitar to get for them... and as of now, the iDea is what I am telling them to look at. GREAT guitar for the price! |
