It's been a while since I've run into a died-in-the-wool Ovation basher. But one came after me recently when I recently posted a for sale ad for my Adamas 1681 on Craig's List.

Before I say too much, let me state clearly and forcefully that I really like Craig's List and the service it provides. It is easily one of the best places to find gear that doesn't show up in the average store.

But I've noticed in the last several months a HUGE increase in self-appointed, self-righteous, self-absorbed AD-Police who apparently have been unemployed for so long they've little else to do other than troll Craig's List responding to ads they think are over-priced, over-hyped, or over-posted. Sometimes they go so far as to post another ad reprimanding someone else's ad, ironically accusing them of wasting space on CL! Or in my case, they take the time to read something they are not even interested in just so they can take up my time by cluttering my email box with an uninformed, snide opinion like the response I received below.

Why am I taking the time to react to such a pitch in the dirt? As a warning. If someone comes after you with an infuriating/condescending remark, DO NOT respond to their email!

Remember that they are clicking a blind link on CL. If you respond to their smart-aleck musings, they will then have your personal email address, which of course can lead to no end of grief. So suck up your pride and hit "DELETE".

Then go rant about it on your favorite forums. (Just don't sink to their level; be sure to delete their email address from the picture you post.)

BTW, like many Ovation bashers, this goof was spitting in the wind. The guitar sold for near its asking price in less than a day. (And don't worry, I did not learn this lesson the hard way. I didn't respond to the email, I just decided to get on my soap box and vent my spleen instead, under the flimsy guise of providing an object lesson. :rolleyes: )

BOY that was a nice guitar though! :cool:

I'm still employed, but I troll Craigslist. Occasionally, I'll find a deal on an Ovation and will try to match it with someone I know who's interested. Happened last week, as a matter of fact, although someone else beat me to the sale.
Awhile ago I saw an ad for a Folklore, but it described it as made for nylon strings. I emailed a couple questions, with a statement that Folklores were steel stringed guitars and the guy sent me back a pissy response citing Dave's site and saying he had been an Ovation dealer and people like me should leave him alone. I did have someone who was interested until that point.

A couple weeks later the same guitar was relisted at a lower price, with a statement that he had been informed that it was actually a steel-stringed guitar. I left him alone.

The one I was looking at last week was listed as a Country Concert. I called an got the model number, serial number and asked if he was sure of the name. After he said no, I told him it was a Country Artist and we had a nice talk about guitars. I called back to buy it for someone else, but he had already sold it. Anyway, Patch, it works both ways. I learned to just ask questions and just answer any they have. Try selling a Porsche on Craigslist if you have time to deal with an uninformed public.

Craigslist on the West coast is a world apart from Craigslist on the East coast. Maybe cuz we've been at it longer, or maybe just because there's less pimps and theives on the "left" coast.

Though I see a few policing posts here and there, it's very few and far between. I've personally never had anyone bash one of my ads, and I sell everything from my old junk to breathtaking instruments on it.

The worst thing are the people that prey on the unknowing by posting bad info,

Big one in my are is the LAWSUIT Les Paul copies. Anyone with a Les Paul close is saying that it is THE Lawsuit guitar when in reality ony an Ibanez copy made in a 2 year period is the law suit copy., Luckily, someone has posted that info a few time for the unknowing and HOPEFULLY no one has made a bad buy..
