I'm considering selling my Legend 1117 sunburst and am not sure what to ask. I bought it new in 1981 and it has an absolutely wonderful big, bright sound. I had to have it electrified for gigs and had a Baggs pickup installed. I have some pictures of it and the case which I'll put up soon. I wanted to get an idea of what real Ovation lovers think of the 1117 and its worth before I actually offer it for sale. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I have an older one and a more recent example before they were discontinued.

My 1980 model was refretted at the factory a few years ago.

It's got a huge, low end and great balance.

I think I paid 250 for the guitar in 1988. Put about 250 into it. It looks great, sounds great.

Both of mine are naturals. A sunburst model is probably a bit rarer.

Yours probably has the kaman bar neck (it does if there is no truss rod cover).

It's probably a buyer's market now. But I'll throw out a number. If it's mint, with very little wear, and has the original brown ovation hardshell case in equally mint condition, i can see it go for 300-450.

Most people associate Ovations with acoustic/electric, so this might hurt since an 1117 is pure acoustic without factory pickups.

Still a great guitar with ebony board and bound neck.

there have been a few on ebay recently. You should search completed items to see what people are willing to pay for them.

A few pics would help.

Also, you should hang around a while. The people on this forum are very passionate about their ovations.

Good luck, Ernie

aih,

Some pics of your guitar would be good. The two questions I would have are 1) what bracing does it have (A bracing or VT-11?), and 2) Does it have a K-bar in the neck?

If it's an A braced Legend, then my opinion is that it's the cat's ass. A great guitar.

Now, having said that, there are people here who have Legends with the VT bracing and just love them. This is what makes this place fun.....

I think it's worth about fifty dollars, and the only person you should sell it to is me!

OK, all kidding aside, why would you want to sell it? If you need the money, sell the kids first, but keep the guitars. There was a thread here a while back about the guitars we all wish we had kept. I regret selling ALL the guitars I've sold. Maybe you ought to re-think this?

If I didn't know that my nephew was playing the heck out of my old 1117 (which is what it was made for), I'd sneak it into the car on my next visit. They are real keepers. I'm sure someone here will snaffle it up quickly if you post some pictures and a reasonable price.

A few year ago I bought one on eBay for $300. Excellent condition but w/o a factory case. Fantastic guitar. I ended up giving to a very good friend of mine for his 50th B-day. In today's market, the value is about $400 +/- $50. If you sell that guitar you will not get what it's really worth and will surely regret it.
