Location: ranson,wva | question is...its a 70's??? has the foil lable like my 1114-4 folklore..in 13min i will be the new owner. the head stock is broken off at the neck,is it worth having a new neckp put on at the factory? and i was wondering if i could have a wide neck put on it..thanks jason |

Location: CT | Yes, a 1111 is a '70s Balladeer, the -1 would make it sunburst. Acoustic only, otherwise it would be a 1611. I don't know if a wide neck would fit. It would have to be 14 frets to the body, otherwise the bridge is in the wrong place, and it would need the same neck attatchment, different bridge spacing for the strings and some sanding on the soundboard. |

Location: Kingston Ontario | I was interested in your comment about the headstock being broken off. Is it totally dismembered or is the upper surface still intact?
I experienced the same problem on my Standard Balladeer about 30 years ago. Unfortunately, I have been told that Ovations are notorious for losing their heads.
If the headstock is still intact, you can fix it yourself.
Purchase four or six small clamps. Metal C clamps will do. Get a bottle of Elmers carpender glue. Cut two small squares of cardboard for each clamp.
Squeeze a good amount of wood glue into the break area. Squeeze the top and bottom of the headstock together and apply the clamps to secure the assembly while it dry's. Place the small squares of cardboard between the headstock and clamp so you don't mar the finish. Leave it about 12 hours and you should be back in business. Be sure to wip off the excess glue before it hardens. It is water soluable.
My repair is 30 years old. The guitar plays perfectly. About a week before my disaster occurred, there was an article in Guitar Player outlining this repair procedure.
Take your time. The glue need sufficient time to set up. A friend of mine also suggested using marine grad wood glue. Since I don't play mine in the shower, I didn,t think it would be an issue.

Absolute garbage. Ovations are no more or less prone to neck breaks that any other guitar. |
