I have talked to alot of guitarists and no-one knows what I am talking about. It seems that i remember an Ovation acoustic with bolts of lightning for sound holes.(in the same position as adamis sound holes). I cant seem to find them on the net anywhere. Did this guitar exist or have I lost my Ovation loving mind?

Hey Wolfin,
Welcome to OFC, and no you're not losing your mind... It seems to me that in the last two years I've been surfing ebay for Ovations, I've seen perhaps two of these up for bid. I'm not sure about this part, but they may have been accompanied by a Jackson-like headstock with six-in-a-line tuning machines- this guitar struck me as very 80's looking. I've never come across one in the flesh, though. Anyway, I know their out there, somewhere :D Stay tuned, as I'm sure someone will have more details shortly...

It was called the Thunderbolt. red white and black finishes, (pearl) Then there was the pink one and the green one and the dark blue Adamas one, although that one had a 16 fret neck as I recall. All of them had the woodpecker peghead as we called it. This was from the GS series, only tipping the hat to Grover a little more. Designed in 1983-4 It was introduced in 85 I think and had a few years run. This is one of the few guitars that should have been done (maybe only done) in Korea. The T-Bolt was $1200ish and was too much although they were great (pride of author talking). If it was imported it could have been in the $3-400 range and would have sold much better as that extra guitar you just had to have.

I've found a picture of one

http://www.rodarmy.org/depot/guitars/guitar27.html

The translation is roughly:

Limited edition Ovation Thunderbolt
made in 1988
Richie Sambora is the new endorser
this guitar is flourescent under blue light and is special for it's sound holes
the neck is Strat- like
typical Ovation plastic sound
bought it for the over the top 80's look
so I could look like a rock star...
...or something like that anyway
