Location: Peoria, Illinois | I am considering a 12-string Ovation. Have been looking at the 1866 Legend. Any thoughts and advice on this or other models. I am a little concerned about a shallow bowl model, but with 12 strings, maybe this would be a good option. In any event, any advice on Ovation 12 string models would be welcome. |

I've got a shallow-bowl Legend-12 (see my Gallery) and I gig with it just about every weekend. It's a great gigging 12-string because it's very comfortable to play (especially standing) and doesn't take up a lot of space in a confined area. If you're looking for something to use live (or in predominantly "plugged-in" situations), I'd highly recommend it.
IF by chance, you're looking for that lush, full 12-string sound with a good degree of "thump" in the bass-end of things . . unplugged . . . then you might wanna consider another model. These guitars just don't have the low-end. It has that chimey, strummy, almost "harpsichord" quality (that I personally like) to it. If Hummer built a mandolin, it'd sound like this.
If your gonna use it live (or with an amp), get it!!
If it's gonna be you primary, sittin' in the living room, playing with other people, strictly unplugged 12 . . . . . mmmmmmmmmaybe not . . |

Thanks a lot. You told me what I need to know. I am not going to gig with this, so I will explore some other options. |

| I was in a guitar center about a year or 2 ago and they had 2 1866's in black and 2 6751's in natural. Unplugged, both 6751's sounded much better to my ears! The low end was lacking and the 1866 just didn't have enough punch. Plugged, I couldn't say. |
