Spotted this in my local music store. Looked like a vintage low-powered tube amp, but was too pristine to be an old one. Turned out to be a new Chinese-made Epiphone. Great construction, incredibly simple design. Single-ended all-tube, 5 watt class-A amp. 1 power tube, 1 preamp tube, volume control and that's it. I'm using it as a lap steel amp. Up full it's loud and filthy, but cleans up nicely with the guitar volume backed off. Instant David Lindley tone. With my discount cost £89.00GBP, which at the current exchange rate is about 170 bucks. It's probably even cheaper in the USA. Ridiculous.

$139 = about £75.00GBP. Man, you guys have it good.

Interesting that they've called it the "Valve" junior, which is a very nice and proper British term, rather than your vulgar colonial word "tube"

I guess Epiphone has a Brit doing ad copy or marketing. Most Yanks won't recognize the term, unless the amp has an engine inside.

As the owner of multiple cabs...2x10. 1x12, 2x12, etc....I think I am gonna splurge and get that valve junior head for 99 bucks. Reviews look good and I have pissed away that much money on a weekend without remembering where it went.

Lots of potential to play around with along with my Kalamazoo Model 2, the Fender Princeton and THD Univalve..

Not sure about the head, but the speaker output on the combo is 4 ohms, which limits the choice of speaker cabinet a little

The Epiphone website lists the valve jr. head as having 4,8 and 16 ohm outputs.

Tuppy--you could vastly expand your European market if you re-packaged them as "string valves." That must be why they didn't catch on as well over there.......

Muzza,
If you are interested in 'String Tubes', be sure to ask for a free promotional pack of 'GitWiped' sanitary guitar pads, the perfect compliment to 'String Tubes' to keep your strings and guitar clean and sounding great....
