I found this group and had to join immediately! My first Ovation was a Preacher, which later that year, I traded in for the UKII. I bought this guitar new back in '82. I have a dozen guitars (including a new Elite LX), but this one by far is my favorite.
After 25 years, the frets have been worn down considerably, but I hesitate to bring this beauty in to any "Ol' Hack" for repair. I'd like to have the frets as close to original as possible. I live in the Seattle area. Does anyone have a suggestion as to who might be able to do a stellar job on this for me? Does anyone have the original fret specs?
Also, one of the threaded holes for the bridge posts is a bit stripped. It has been for many years. I put some teflon tape around the threads on the post itself and it seems to do fine, but if I'm getting the other work done, I may as well see if it can be fixed. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Can it be fixed (as it's in the body itself)?
Any help or info is much appreciated.

Mike Lull's shop is near you: http://www.mikelull.com/repairs.htm
He's a well-known builder and repairman. I haven't been to the shop, so I can't offer an opinion.
I've been wondering what the frets on a UKII should be like. I bought a body and neck on eBay and the frets seem low and wide compared to my Deacon and Breadwinner. I still need a nut, neckplate, and neck screws to make it playable.

Location: Jet City | They are fat frets. I love 'em... Or used to. The nut. I forgot about that. Mine's lose, but the strings seem to keep it in place. I guess a lil crazy glue? |

Their pricing is also unbelievably reasonable. |
