Location: Keller, TX | Can anyone explain to me how to tune by harmonics? I can tune by the 5th fret procedure, but would like to learn the tuning by harmonics procedure. I know how to make a string ?harmonize? by lightly touching the string and plucking it and listening to the harmonic pulses, but on which frets on which strings? |

| Couple of points - tuning to 5ths can be misleading on anything less than a very good guitar. And 5th fret harmonics are notoriously dodgy on cheaper guitars. The closer you get back to the nut the more important the position and the cut of the nut becomes.
And a guitar tuned perfectly to harmonics can reveal some horrible home truths about the accuracy of the fret installation. Sometimes relative tuning is the best you can get. ;) |

B on the A string to open B string....
Actually, I do open E's and E on the D string all octaves too. |
