| I have a 50 year old balladeer that I wish to install a VIP-5 preamp in. I already have a fishman under-saddle piezo installed years ago but I have had no way to control it as it is a direct out jack and the VIP would give me control from the guitar. Does anyone know where I can get a hole template to give to my luthier for him to install the preamp?
Thanks to all who respond. |

Location: Utah | Do you already have the preamp?
I recall quite recently seeing either the VIP or Op Pro Studio kit for sale which came with the template. IIRC it was on a GEWA or Thomann site in Europe, but I can't find it again with a quick look.
Have you heard the VIP in a wood topped Ovation? Are you looking to record with it or play live on stage, or just for fun at home? |

Location: Utah | Somewhere on this forum, perhaps in the Bottomfeeders Luthier area, a member named Old Man Arthur installed a preamp of that same shape. He created a template possibly from aluminum.
An important consideration is getting the location correct within the curves of the body. It is a 3-dimensional cutout, so if it is too far towards the neck or the bridge it won't fit the curve properly. So you need a 3-D template.
Soft sheet aluminum would be easy to cut and bend. |
