I think Al had several of them when I got mine. You might want to check with him if one might still be available. High end mandolins are insanely expensive which by comparison this one was an absolute steal. |

It's the no-controls preamp of the FD14, just a battery and an output jack some impedance matching. I assume the thing is EQ'd specifically for mando.
I think "line driver" is what Takamine calls their version of this type pre-amp. Not sure that Ovation has an official name for it. Some folks call it "direct out", but in my mind that is not correct. I think of "direct out" as a fishman type deal (I have it on a few ukuleles) where the pickup os just wired to the jack and you need to use a completely external pre-amp or DI box. |
