Location: Sacramento, CA | I'm a beginner trying to play a Fender dreadnought body guitar. I have a right shoulder injury and getting around the dreadnought body can be uncomfortable at times. It seems that the super shallow body Ovations would be more advantageous to me. However, when I look for used Ovations on various websites, I get confused by the Model Numbers. I'll see 1861 and then I see GC057. This is confusing. I was hoping that there is a place that can make some sense of Ovations numbering schemes. Thanks for your help. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | It's going to be tough. If you look in the FAQ section there is a model list and also a guide to breaking out the model numbers, but there are so many exceptions, that your best bet is to just look at each guitar. The 2nd digit used to be "8" for shallow, like an 1868, but there's the 1661 and 1567 which are shallow as well. I wish I could be more help.

Location: Sacramento, CA | Thanks for your reply. Well, I'll just have to investigate each one listed. Unfortunately, many people listing Ovations, don't provide a lot of information. Most don't specify the model number or what shape the bowl is. |

 Ah... The good ol' days.
Generally, if you have the model number that the seller claims you can just google it.
Musicians Friend and Sweetwater are kind enough to leave discontinued items up for research.

Location: Sacramento, CA | I have been googling model numbers, but even when I find some info, it depends on how the guitar was built with regard to bracing and type of wood used in the top and other factors to figure if the price asked is worth it.
