This is a rough one- need a tech head for this one.
I'm rebuilding Ovation guitars that are damaged or obscure like this one, love Ovations, my first guitar, 1974 Legend.
Anyway, about the M867, the guitar body and neck are good, the electronics just won't work. I do not have the GTM6 as of yet, looking for an Ovation model that works for a low price.
I removed all the wiring and found a few wires on the guitar input jack not connected, the jack is a nine pole, bought a new one from Stewmac and rewired it, tested wiring connections, seems OK, but no output, nothing!
I'm 90% sure I have the wiring correct, may be the OP-24 preamp is the problem, battery light goes on but no signal out from the guitar. The pickup wiring has 6 wires to the Midi box then to the guitar jack. Thinking the Midi box is just a bypass when not using the GTM6.
Will replace the OP-24 as soon as I can find one, OP-24+ should fit also.
OK, is there anyone out there with the wiring diagram to this guitar, would love to make sure I wired the guitar jack correctly.
Ovation says, "Sorry nothing around for this any more try www.ovationtribute.com they have a lot of info there.", one guy on this site says he got paperwork from Ovation, I thinking that was when they were in New Hartford.
Any info on this would be appreciated.
Thanks :HH

Hi Harry,

Those are rare ones. I happen to have one myself though. Would a picture of my jack wires help?

Damon67, Hi

A picture will verify my wiring, that would be great if you can do this. I'll be sure it's not a mistake in wiring, If not, it's most likely the preamp.
Really like to try to fix these old guitars back into good working condition.
Thanks for your reply.

Harry, it seems like there were a couple different versions of the midi guitars. Mine is actually an R869

Mine has a Roland pickup as well as the standard Ovation pickup, the controls for the midi are 4 buttons and a knob, and the preamp is an Optima. The guitar was built in the 90's and would work with any Roland midi system.

Yours was an older version with a single control knob for the midi and an Op-24 preamp that was built in the late 80's.

I've updated your membership so you can post in the main sections. Try your question over there. Only a handful of people can respond in the Welcome area.

Damon67, Thanks for the update, just learning to navigate this site.
Checked various combos for the jack wiring and no luck, it's not my wiring. Replacing the Op-24 with the Op-24+, as soon as I can get it, should fit, thanks for trying on that jack info.Have to see what a R869 is.
If I can't get the midi working with the GTM6 I'm going for the Roland midi also, it's really nice, actually much better then the onboard midi from Ovation/Shadow.
About your guitars, well I think maybe just one more! Really nice collection, must be hard to have a favorite?
If I get this thing to work I'll post it.
