Location: moline,illinois | Hey guys I wanted to get your opinions about a guitar I found on craigslist, the story from the owner is he bought a custom legend 1619 new in 1980 then in 1992 had some issues with the bowl and sent it to the factory to be repaired and asked if they could put a cutaway bowl on instead which they did for a reasonable fee.so what we have now is a 1980 top and neck on a 1769 bowl, the pics he sent me look great, natural color, carved bridge and truss rod cover,op24 preamp, awesome looking neck and a fair price I think,675$.
So what does anybody know about modified guitars like this, what truss rod neck mounting do you think it might have since it was modified at the factory,i'm hoping to go look at it this weekend.

Location: Sydney, Australia | A 1980 neck would have a Kaman bar neck. Usually they throw away the top when replacing the bowl, so that is a bit of an unusual repair. |

Location: Jet City | The truss rod change happened right around 1980. It could very well be a pre-kaman neck... well obviously it is by the description.
And yeah, probably only the neck is original. They replace bowl and top in those situations.

Location: moline,illinois | I wondered if they could save the top but its hard to get good info when your emailing off Craigslist.
He said he had the bowl replaced under warranty and paid an extra 150$ to have it made into a cutaway.
I think the factory probably did there amazing customer service trick and gave him a new top and bowl making the guitar look like new.
I checked the serial number he sent me and it dates to 1979 pre Kaman bar neck I guess, is that good?

Location: Jet City | I like the pre-kaman bar necks cuz they're thinner and lighter not everyone likes that though
