Location: Halifax, nova scotia | ya'll are gonna be sick of me posting about the Josh, but i have so many things to ask. ive searched through the archives and found answers to many of them, but heres one i couldnt find.
the original brochure for the JW said 'it is equipped with medium gauge, wound bronze strings, but will accept any gauge steel or classic strings in standard length.'
ive currently strung it with medium exps, but was wondering if anyone here has strung their Josh with nylons and what was it like?
im not expecting it to turn into a classical guitar, but ive always enjoyed the sound of a gut string guitar and wonder how it would fair.
would i need a nut with wider string slots? i dont really want to file into the stock nut. what tension would you suggest?
high or regular tension?

Location: Boise, Idaho | I wouldn't advise going there. Buy a Country Artist or Classic or some other brand of classical guitar that were made for nylon strings. You'll have to redo the nut and probably the bridge. The top won't resonate as much, so you'll probably wish you had a cedar top. I have a Folklore, the successor to the Josh White. I got a great deal on it because the prior owner couldn't keep nylon stings on it. They kept coming off at the bridge, so he probably never even noticed that they wouldn't seat at the nut. He gave up without knowing that it was designed as a steel string guitar. My gain. |

The 1114 is a Steel String guitar. You could put Nylons on it, but WHY?
If you want lighter feeling strings, use Silk-n-Steel.
If you like the sound of a Nylon string guitar...
You won't get it by putting Nylon stings on a Steel String guitar.
