Hi all,
what are the main differences between the two Al Di Meola models ?
Looking at the specs they look similar
Thank you.

1. Preamps OpPro in the AD2, and Optima in AD1
2. back of neck/headstock is painted on AD1, natural on AD2

Aside from that, they seem identical. Don't know if there's any real structural difference

I don't agree...I have had both and, besides the pre-amp, IMHO the AD II is a better guitar.

There was just the story told (by Mr. Ovation) on another thread about an artist with his own signature Ovation (I'm guessing that it's one that looks like a black CL, but I won't name names) who brought his personal guitar to the factory for some work. They compared it to what they were building now, and found that the sound was different. Examining the guitars, they did find some differences that had slowly been incorporated into the newer models of the same guitar......
