Subject: What is the easiest way to remove a rosette?

Location: Seymour, Tennessee		Ok Luthiers...
I want to replace the rosette on my boy's 77 CB.
It is intact but scratches and has a few little cracks.
What is the easiest or best way to remove the old one without tearing the top apart?

Location: Eaton, Indiana		It's affixed to the top with a brittle glue. Start with the outside edge and very carefully lift it with a sharpened putty knife. Work towards the center of the hole. There is also a little lip under the end of the fretboard.

I use contact cement to apply the new one.

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :)		I haven't tried that yet, but you MAY want to heat it first with a blow dryer from a little distance. A LITTLE heat should make the adhesive soften up a bit and may help avoid chipping any of the wood off.

Location: Seymour, Tennessee		I had to put a considerable amount of pressure with my finger and then one little part popped up
I was able to wiggle a plastic putty knife under it and I eventually got it off in two pieces.
Now I just have to sand away the glue residue, wait for a rosette, & glue it on. :)
