on a 1994 1581 11 what shuts the battery off or do I have to pull it out every time it is idle? |

But it should go off when the jack is removed.
(Although I do have a VIP-5 that will eat batteries while sitting on the shelf) |

Its a OP 24 active equalization system
3 band graphic EQ
1 volume knob
Green push button light to test batt, and give level of volume control in dark conditions.

Location: Boise, Idaho | It should be fine even with the cord in, but it's best to unplug it. Batteries last for years in my OP 24s, but I don't plug them in much. |
