I recently acquired a 1984 Ovation Ultra 1317 in a trade, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I adjusted the truss rod for good neck relief, and the saddle is as low as Ovation recommends taking it to maintain a good break angle, but it's still at 5/32" at the 12th fret. Not horrible, but not where I like it.

I think it sounds pretty good. It's strictly acoustic, but I dropped a Seymour Duncan Woody into the soundhole to make an audio sample...I had the pup a little high on the treble side so there are a couple spots that sound like fret buzz, but it's the strings buzzing on the pup when I was up the neck a ways.

It has some dings in it, and a chip out of the headstock, but it's not in that bad of shape for a 24 year old guitar. It also has an Ovation case with it...not sure if it's original or not. I just took the guitar out back to get some pics...

Does it need a neck reset to get the action down a couple more 32nds? Is it worth it? Or should I just sell and put the dough toward a 2774LX? What could I ask for it?

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

Great, another damn fine guitarist showin' up the rest of us hackers! Nice job, sounds really good.

A neck reset might be more than the git's worth. Why not keep it for slide? That'd be a good excuse to get another O ;)

Thanks guys, I think it has pretty good tone but the action puts me off a bit. I thought about making it my slide guitar...but I don't play slide. I've tried but it never held my interest long enough to get anywhere with it.

Anyone have any links to an Ovation neck reset tutorial? I'd love to give it a shot with a little direction.
