Hi,

I've got a Ovation Viper EA68 (#475437) - It's a great instrument. However, I've got a question about the pickup..

It's seems that the low E string is a bit louder in volume/fullness compared to the other strings. I do a lot of fingerstyle and find that I have to really try to hit that string much softer so it doesn't overpower the other strings.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas or suggestions? Any help would be appreaciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Is the saddle perfectly fitted in the bridge slot?

Just due to the physics of the larger string, it's naturally gonna be louder/fuller. Something you could EQ-out?

Or try different strings (gauges) with different characteristics...

Sounds like it could be a bad pickup. Ovation pickups of this type rarely have string-to-string balance issues unless they develop a fault. Check with customer service.

Interesting. As PT says, the thin line pickup, as are all the Ovation pickups, is pretty well balanced between strings, and since I prefer a bit more bass, I almost always dial up the bass EQ and leave the treble flat (or in the middle). That's just my personal preference.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I actually checked the bridge and re-seated the shims and pickup. That took care of the problem!

Thanks,
Jeremy
