Im in the market for a new guitar...
I have an old cheap takamine, and I am looking upgrading to an ovation, but I have some questions.

what is the difference between the models with multiple sound holes vs. a single one?

Any opinions for me regarding which model is best for mainly acoustic settings, as I dont plan to plug it in often, if ever.

how much difference is there between the mid depth vs. the deep depth, as far as sound. (unfortunatly the store in my town only has 4 models to try).

thanks for any help
BJ

A sound hole, or multiple soundholes, are merley tuning ports which infulence the resonant frequency of the guitar. The most important point about soundholes which aren't in the middle of the top is that they allow a bracing pattern which deals with tonal balance first & structural support second. It's this that has as much an influence on the tone as the the size, position or number of holes. Both types sound good, buy the one which sounds best to you.

All things being equal (which they never are) deep Bowl guitars probably sound the best from an acoustic only standpoint , but from a gigging musicians standpoint I'm happy with the mid-depth. If you want primarily an acoustic rather than an electro guitar get a deep bowl, but there's very few available in the current line.

I'll add to Paul's good advice with the observation that very good American made Ovation acoustic guitars are available at prices that are phenomenal compared to other brand names. Browse a little on the board and if you have a question put it out there and let these Ovation experts chew on it and you will get an answer that will steer you to the guitar that will become your lifetime companion, or maybe two or three as time goes on and you become as addicted as the rest of us Ovationists.

I have both multiple and single hole ovations. I play 90% "un-pluged" I like the "voice" of the multiple it's closer. I like the deep 1st. mid secound. You can wrap around the mid a little better... You might check out the "comfort" factor.
