Location: Dartmouth | I've always been an Ovation fan. Since I was a kid.
I have a chance to buy a Pinnacle 386T. Can anybody tell me anything about it. Other than they were built between the mid 80's to about '90. I'm looking more for quality and value. I don't want to get ripped on my first Ovation.

Location: Scotland | Would that be a 3862-8T? The 8T meaning transparent blue finish. This would be the supershallow cutaway version. The Pinnacles back then were made in Japan and seemed to be an attempt in terms of quality to bridge the gap between the Celebs/Ultras & the USA guitars. They had solid spruce tops, 2-piece neck, unbound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, Ovation pickup & FET3 preanp. Similar in appearance to an early '80's US Balladeer. They are good enough guitars depending on the price. bear in mind you could get a USA-made guitar for $300-500 |

Location: Scotland | Sunburst is usually color code -1 and would appear as a suffix to the 4-digit model code. I can't recall the model number 386T. I dug out some catalogs & as far as I can tell when the Pinnacle was introduced in the late '80's there were 2 models; 3712 which was a deepbowl non-cut, and 3862 which was a supershallow cutaway. The Pinnacle didn't appear in the '94 catalog so they were only around for 4 or 5 years. |
