On my new Balladeer the top of the guitar the plastic binding around the top is sharp and not smooth. Cuts into my arm when playing. Actually when you run your finger around it it is very rough and has no finish at all. Sandpaper might fix it. Anyone else with this problem?

Its not a problem, its a feature... the oft maligned, but always cherished Ovation balonga slicer.

Since it's new I would suggest you contact the person you bought it from & have it replaced or repaired at the factory. There shouldn't be any sharp edges on an American made Ovation, or a Korean made Ovation either for that matter.

There is a valid q. though...can't you simply take fine sandpaper and smooth over the edge on the plastic binding?? When I got my CL 12string the neck binding was not rounded over like I wanted it... so I simply took a little time and fine sanded it. Couldn't I do the same thing to the top binding since the edge is more sharp than I'd like it to be?? I suppose I could "send it back" for some attention, but I'd rather take 20 min. and do it myself! John <>{

The edges of the binding are usually scraped to make sure they're clean. Just smoove it down with some sand paper. I'd make sure that you use a block so the paper hits only the edge. Start with 320, then 400 and 600.
You'll have to use a kitchen knife for the bologna from now on though.
