My calluses harden, crack, peel off and then harden agasin. It's about a 2 week cycle. I just keep playing. If they're tender, then they'll stop being tender after awhile. When I'm playing in front of people I never even notice if they're tender.

Big deal.....

WOW! They still make that stuff?

Good product that's been around for a LONG time.

Wow, Jeff, did we work together? Yes, it's true, I kept my last name for a middle name when I was married, leaving me with rather interesting initials. However "that" is not what I'm picking. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get more wise-"initial" comebacks on that line though. Where's Cliff?

I hadn't been playing any of my electrics for awhile...
I recently start playing the Oscar Schmidt Phony 335...
Now, those electric strings are real easy to play at first,
but after awhile those skinny strings start acting like a cheese-slicer on your finger-tips.

But I just said to myself that this is Good for my callouses.

We Aussies are real tough, we just keep playing until all the finger tips are bleeding profusely. Then when you wake up in the morning you have a handy scab on each finger tip.

Actually, I fall in the emery board camp, particularly when doing flick-offs when little catchy bits affect my playing.

And now to the question, Capt Handle&Grettle, just keep using the emeryory board. I have some that Ed Gerhardt sells on his web site, 4 grits. I also have a 6" bastard file from the hardware store. I use that mostly for the nails on the right hand, after I build them up with super glue and acrylic powder. But as far as the the callouses just keep playing. Glad Workshoplive is working out for you.

I feel like I'm getting some good stuff there. I've never done any fingerstyle playing before. Pat Johnson gives a good introduction to it.

And I fail often at implementing Matt's practice routine, but even when I fall short, I'm still better focused in my practicing than before. By the way, guys, Grayson Capps music is perfect for ear training practice. Tune to drop D and work on Wail & Ride. You'll say "I didn't know I could do that!"

I chew mine off when they get in the way. Not as tasty as gum, but just as entertaining.
