Location: Boise, Idaho | I have some mahogany that I finish and anchor into the studs with deck screws. Then I mount the hangers to that. It looks like they will stay for as long as we're in this house. |

Location: North Carolina | FWIW, I gig with, and have for over a decade, the Ultimate guitar stand. It folds flat in about 3 seconds, is light and easy to transport and is secure. It is NOT roundback friendly unless you face the guitar in. So it won't work as a display stand, but is excellent for gigs. |

I bought ( 2 ) Genesis GS 100 `s for my O`s , because they support them better than any other stand I`ve tried ;)

Location: North Carolina | I've noticed that while I can sit my roundbacks face-out in the Ultimate stands, the bottom bout does not sit behind the lip in the base and therefore don't seem as secure as my other guitars - a slight bump might dislodge them. This actually happened to me once before I noticed why. So on gigs, I place them face-in and close the clamps around the neck. |

Location: South of most, North of few | Read a couple of reviews people wrote at one of the sales sites, that the foam damaged the neck finish on the guitar, as in a chemical reaction. (as I recall, it was an expensive guitar also) Said it was like a cig. lighter burn. I was considering one of these, has anyone run into this? |

Location: Illinois | In my not so humble opinion. I have yet to see a floor model guit tar stand that I would trust to hold my guit tars indefinitely, without dropping. All are a compromsie between portability, collapsability and being able to accomodate various guitar shapes and sizes. Specificaly I haven't seen anythying I'd say is built to accomodate a slick, bowl backed guitar. I only use mine when I'm practicing to hold while I'm rummaging for another song book or tuner. After practice, it's back, safe in the case.
While I like the looks of a guit tar hanging on the wall, I find it a daily chore to have to refill all the humidifiers, especially in the winter. I substitute wall posters.
If I had room for a floor model humidifier, I'd hang a couple safely on the wall with a hanger designed especially for the purpose with minimum 2" screws into the stud. Anything else... you're shooting craps.
Yes, natural rubber and some rubber-like compounds can react rather badly with guitar finishes, especially the expensive ones. The Hercules stand advertises it's rubber components DO NOT react with guitar finishes (be sure to get it in writing). Other people have covered the rubber components with cloth, leather or wrapped them with yarn. The latter would render the support surfaces a little slicker, so be careful.
(One of the many reasons I don't like these type of stands for display or indefinite storage). Vinyl doesn't play nice with some finishes as well. So mind those cheap straps! |

We must be talking about two different species of Ultimate stands . . .
Mine is a Genesis (don't know the model#), and it supports the guitar from the neck and the bowl rests up against the two foamrubber-coated legs. There's no "lip" and/or base . . .
The chemical reaction to some rubber/vinyl hangers on guitar finishes often happens with nitro-cellulose finishes (similar to violin, vintage instruments, and I suppose some boutique luthier's wares) Ovations are a polyester finish. |

Personally, I like the collapsable Fender models that they offer in both electric and acoustic configuration. GC ran a special last year around $9 each . . . I bought 5. Its the only stand that fits in my gig bag, and I can pack three of them. |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Yup ,CLIFF is RIGHT,that`s the ones I got,GS-100 Genesis guitarstand ,check..www.ultimate support.com..then click "music gear instrument stands "..click.."guitar & amp stands"..click on picture of "guitarstands"..then You `ll see what CLIFF ( and I ) mean... very sturdy and secure ,however, where the neck is being supported ,I`ve glued strips of FELT,thereby insuring no marks whatsoever,and when stored,the legs Lock in place,and it`s very affordable too (overhere `bout 25 usd )..sorry `bout the lengthy explanation,I do n`t know how to post a link.. :rolleyes:

Location: Round Rock, TX | I also use the Fender collapsibles. Easy to carry, everything fits on either the electric or the acoustic version. For home either case 'em or hang 'em. I keep one stand (Ultimate) in the studio for practice sessions, but nothin' gets left on it. |

There was a nice O on the Baaa with damage to the neck by the foam on the "stirrup". Just checked mine, and my neck doesn't even touch it. That's good, but now I think I will take that crap off. |
