Ouch! ... I should have known something was up when I saw the vague description. I also didn't notice the heavy fret wear until I read Mike's post and took a second look at the enlarged picture. I personally would contact the seller and let him know these serious problems should have been noted on the description. You never know ... he MAY give you a partial refund to cover some of the costs for repair. Looking at the fretboard I'd consider a new neck, although I have seen filler used to build up a fretboard before. The top looks good on the outside, they could probably repair the bracing. Good luck, and this is definitely a reminder to me to ask questions and get more pictures before committing in the future. Actually, I'd just push for a refund.(you have nothing to lose in asking) By the time you throw that much money into it you get get another one for the same price or less.

I am pretty confident that the MS can repair this...it's just that there is so much to repair...As for the fingerboard I think it can be sanded/resurfaced and new frets installed...the neck is in very good condition; one of the few things that are...

It was an outright lie by omission.
This is a proper time when that paypal refund process should be used.

The guitar is probably in the worst condition of any I have seen as far as being filthy and needing major work. The tuners are a combination of rust, pitting, and corrosion: btw, did I mention filth? I guess it is possible they can be salvaged...but even if they can, they will never look very nice...the case is covered in filth/stickers/and all the metal hardware is rusted: same on the guitar: the frets are wasted on the first 7 frets; the fingerboard has deep cowboy chord holes worn in the first three frets and again, all metal hardware is rusted...the p/u and the nut are a nice shade of nicotine brown and the battery was corroded badly...one area of the binding has been broken/chipped but not too badly...

I know the mother ship can perform a miracle but this is more on the order of an exorcism...

I'm off for a few days in the morning but I'll take pic's next week upon my return and post before and after MS pic’s later...

Stay tuned...
Thanks for the update Mike.

I would just return it and get your money back.

Seller says no returns. You could probably trump that because of the condition, but not if you bought it "off" ebay.
Sorry, Willa. Selling it in that condition with no mention of the damage is criminal, but I wouldn't have high hopes for a refund.

I suggest everyone make note of the seller's ebay id in case he has future listings.

I would agree with Dave and Slip. This one's way over the line. Send it back - certified.

*Edited: Ooo, Waskel's right - off the bay makes it an entirely different story. Ouch.

Oh, Willa;
Here is a big, loooooooooong hug; I'm so sorry, girlfriend, I really am. I have only ever bought one git on eBay, and ended up taking a really big hit on an 1868. After that incident, I decided only to get anything I had to have through here.
Wish I could help more,
Karen :(

Hey, Karen. Thanks for your sympathy (whimpering). I don't do Ebay very often since discovering the OFC gang. Until this purchase, I've done OK, so I think it was just a matter of time before I got 'beat'.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Oh, the agony ... :(

I am going to try to get this repaired for Willa...she was just trying to get a pair of Twins: and that is something I can understand... ;)
With the neck removed, it may be easier to access and fix the broken/damaged braces and to clamp the broken epi/top holes...but I don;t do refrets and it really needs that....so I recommend a trip to the MS for a makeover...I am going to get on it when ai get back home Monday!
Hawaii is rough on O's and A's...right Randy? lol

willa,
you didn't buy this through eBay if i recall. the seller also had it listed on craigslist and you contacted him directly to strike a bargain, right?

sorry it wasn't smooth sailin' on this one. if it was on the same island, i'd have checked on it for you first.

hawaii's climate is rough on all parts metal. pitted/corroded tuners and case latches is the norm here. the other problems with the guitar are not my idea of "mojo".

Yeah, well, actually Randy, it's more like VOO DOO! I'm very disappointed. I could write him and push the issue, but I doubt it would do me any good. Hopefully she can be resurrected, sort of like Frankenstein's bride ...

I guess there IS another way to look at this. You are rescuing another Adamas guitar. I am absolutely confident that the Mothership can and will correct the problems and even suprise you with additional upgrade stuff. To quote one of those great guys at the factory "It's what we do" If that is the course you take, you will be very pleased with the result.

Agreed,BUT, the unfortunate thing is Willa has to put out a lot of extra cash she should NOT of had to. :(

I dunno. No offense to anyone here, and Willa you know I love ya, but if the guitar was pristine it would've have cost a bunch more to start with. I glean from some of the comments I see here that there were issues noted the pictures they saw ... I didn't see the CL post so I only saw the eBay listing and there was no mention whatsoever of the condition there. So caveat emptor. If the seller sent pictures and provided descriptions of the guitar that were patently false, then we can organize a posse and go extract some justice (anything for a trip to Hawaii, hmmm?). But ... it is the responsibility of the buyer to probe for and make sure they're getting what they think they're getting ... not the other way around. If the deal seems too good to be true, it usually is. I'm sure the factory can make it playable, and I hope that the guitar turns out to be everything you wanted Willa. Who knows, maybe this one is bursting with character and just needs a little TLC. Sorta like having Clinton and Stacy on the case.

Stoney, caveat emptor indeed! I saw the crack in the treble epaulet and asked the seller about them. He said the crack was superficial and did not affect the sound of the guitar. SO, he lied. He also listed this as 'no returns'. I took a chance ... and lost! That's EvilBay for ya.

;(

A posse sounds GOOD.

IMO, a no-returns policy is only valid if the item is substantially as advertised. But as a private sale you really don't have any teeth to get compliance from a distance.

Aside from the $ frustrations, in the end you are sure to love the guitar after Mother is finished with it.
