Roscoe- we're just giving newf a hard time. On the other hand, why get on an Ovation forum and say you want to trade your one Ovation for a Taylor (unless you're just trying to get a rise out of the members). If you do, fine....you don't need to tell us about it. Kind of like seeing your ex-girlfriend at a party and telling her how great your new girlfriend is in bed.

Deal is off anyways, my buyer for my ovation already has an ovation on order as of late this afternoon.

If I could actually get my hands on the Taylor to play it, things might have been different and I could have made a decision faster. It wasn't a straight up swap, it was a bit more money then I spent on the elite.
by the way, it was an honest question about two guitars and was hoping for honest answers from people with experience with both. Save the troll nonsense for the kiddies.

Well, I could see going to the Taylor forum and saying, "hey, I found a sucker that will trade me his Josh white for my 514. Wadya think"

...just duck.

My OV is a new 2078lx elite deep contour.

Not sure if I should do this or not. I've never played a Taylor
Newf, Newf, Newf,

No one's gonna buy your Elite, isn't that the one with all the "swirlies?" ;)

I hope you were just baiting us, but here's my opinion, just in case you were ever serious:

Buying almost any all-wood guitar without playing it first is much more risky than buying an Ovation without playing it first. There are plenty of threads here discussing side-by-side comparisons of identical all-wood models that sound totally different. I believe that the consistency of the round-backs on Ovations eliminate part of that problem. There is a nice variety of tone/sound/depth/etc. available in the Ovation line, but I have found that within any one model, Ovations tend to be more consistent than other brands, and therefore, with an Ovation/Adamas you can depend on getting a guitar that sounds like you expect it to sound, even if you can't play it first.

I also happen to think that they sound great, regardless of what the back is made of. Plus, on a dollar-for-dollar basis you get a heck of a lot more with an Ovation than any other guitar. You could expand your possibilities and sound options by adding an Ovation 12-string or shallow-bowl to your Elite and have two great distinctive guitars for less money than you might spend for one Taylor that may, at best, sound almost as good as either one of those 2 Ovations.

Just because you paid a fraction of the real value of your Elite doesn't mean you have a cheap guitar. I also thought that you had said earlier that you loved the sound and the way it plays?

Don't let the giant marketing machine fool you. Taylor seems to have a HUGE advertising and marketing budget, they advertise everywhere, they sponsor some big-name artists, they distribute elaborate and expensive brochures to anyone who will read them, etc. Have you ever considered that the higher prices might be a result of marketing expenses, not necessarily a superior product?

If there is one theme that is repeated around here more frequently than any other relating to previously-owned Ovation/Adamas guitars it's: "I wish I never sold it."

Newf, don't be a lemming, keep the Elite, play the heck out of it and enjoy it, don't let buyer's remorse push you to into making an avoidable mistake. Hang out here often, and we'll give you all the reinforcement you need.

And incidentally, if you're looking for someone to support the expensive down-grade you're considering, I think you're looking in the wrong place… ;)

…and now you know why I hang out here…
…would someone pass the Kool-Aid™, I'm thirsty… ;)

As Usual, the Suspects are wrong, Taylors are shyte and most everyone knows it, you are much better off with your Ovation, but you have already come to that conclusion I think.

I too might be tempted to trade an Applause model ... for one of the 814 or 914 Grand Auditorium Taylors.

You should have made the deal. Unless the Ovation was given to you by your wife or something you just passed on a major trade up. Now for all of you that say Taylors are over priced i say maybe. But i`ve owned a 814CE and got it for less than this Taylor. Same with many other Taylors i`ve had. There are deals out there on Taylors , you just have to look. I recall a summer day not long ago when a nameless OFC member(TJ)said he would never own a @##!@# Taylor. Now look at whats hanging by that clock on the wall.

I have a nice Taylor. It is at least as bright as the historic Gibson model and the old Ovation model, but not nearly as much as the vintage Guild model, nor the custom Gretsch or Adamas models. I even have a Breedlove that outshines the Taylor.

I've owned several Taylors and played a ton more. The only one I kept for any length of time was my DDSM...Doyle Dykes Sig Model. Had a terrific neck that I loved to play even tho I played it only about once a week. Kept that one about 4 years before I sold it to finance a Collings.

After about 2-3 days, I never missed it.

guys, thread is pointless now, but thanks anyways. OV isn't going anywhere, infact I ordered another one last night on behalf of my father who also loved it.

Like I said, if I could have played the Taylor beforehand, I could have made my own decision, but I couldn't and I know I already like my Elite, so I'll just be happy with it.

The only Taylor that interested me was a slothead I played at The Music Outlet,(I picked it up to get a better look at the guitar stand it was on).

I think Trader Jim took a picture of me with it.
