Wow. It does seem like that would have been a good direction to go.
Jerome, I was curious about the tone and volume as well.

The sound is maybe a little bit less "ovation" than usual and the projection is fantastic.
A great guitar !!!

I don't know...
As there is no access door, I'll try to look this week end when I'll change the strings. ;)

I was curious about the same thing...

This is the first picture I've ever seen of this very interesting prototype. It's very cool...Were there many made? Cloth bowl? What Year..? Labels?

The only odd thing to me.. is that somehow the Dred body shape and the Ovation Peghead don't seem natural together. It's like the Fender Strat peghead on some of their acoustics guitars, which really gives me a double take.

I've changed the strings and try to take some pics.
It's not so easy to take pics from the inside of the guitar but some of them are acceptable.
Maybe someone could tel me what kind of bracing is it??
It seems to be a "A" bracing.

The inside of the bowl is also very interesting !!

I forgot to mention that I've added two shims under the saddle and that there's no buzz left now.

The action is a little bit high but very playable and she sounds so good!!!
It's probably not my best guitar for fingerstyle music but one of the best for playing with a pick.

I'm very very happy to have the privilege to own such a unique instrument.

I just regret that there's no label inside but it's not really important, it's an Ovation for sure!!! ;)

I wonder, Jerome, if this is the Balladeer is close to the one that John McLaughlin played on his "My Goal's Beyond" record? That is a fantastic Ovation sound, unplugged! this pic and this pic are the only ones I know.

I have to laugh out loud here.

this guitar has been on my website for at least 12 years with no interest.

I sell it to Jerome and everyone is wondering from what planet scotty beamed it down.

It you check my website you may find some of these types of gems on there. then you can buy one too and people can congratulate you for such a rare and interesting find LOL

Very true, Al. But, hey, I still cling to my old 1117, use it all the time, every gig. For my money it's only a few years younger than the REALLY original O's. For my money, it's not what you own but what you use!

Due to many things going on it's been quite a while since I've last posted, but this I had to share.. Here's some random history I thought would fit this thread..

I uncovered these historical relics\treasures during a clean out at my fathers former workshop.

.. enjoy!

Was a Dreadnought Adamas center hole proto ever considered ???

Perhaps that was the mold for the hand laid dread proto bowl?

Very interesting stuff TJR, thank you for sharing!! ;)
This mold seems to fit to my dread proto but I'm pretty sure that the bowl was not hand laid on mine.
Maybe is it just a template??

Jerome, Doesn't this pic from your album show the tell tale cloth weave along either side of the neck support? In some regards the bowl you have looks more rounded than the form/mold I show. Another mystery I guess , is it really a match???

You're right Talbot, I've made a confusion with my Legend Proto Cutaway.
So it's surely the mold used for the Dread proto and it a very interesting piece!!!
