Now the nuts that Jeff W showed a pic of are not what I use. I have mine made and balanced in gold, not brass. As any good guitar player knows, the gold balanced nuts and washers contribute mightily to the acoustics of any guitar. My spares are kept in a vault in CT.

Gotohs are pretty good. I'd rate them a step higher than ping. I used Pings on some telestrats I was making and they stripped out pretty easily. I switched to the Gotoh Kluson copies and they worked fine.
I am inclined to agree that most of the time the problem is not with the tuning machines but with Moody's nuts. If that brass was teflon coated they might work better.

worship leader,

To have an amazing FIVE chords, just put your 1st finger on the 1st fret on the G string to change an Em to an Emajor.

With a bit of guitar-oriented music theory, you can turn your knowledge from 4 chords to 40 amazingly quick.

well don't just take my word for it...it is a common misconception among men that their semen comes from their testicles, or "nuts" as we call them around here. the "nuts" create the sperm who travel in the semen that is stored in the prostate. the consistancey of semen is such that it can travel through the acidic vagina, delivering the sperm to the approprate location.
if you think about it, having 50 lbs. of .013 string tension on your "nut" would be rather uncomfortable.
i just occasionally use a little 500 sandpaper on the tusq string nut on my ovation. which, by the way, is fine and not the problem with my tuning woes.

BTW guys- grovers installed, perfect drop in replacement. they are smoother and more stable than the pings, and little heavier too- which i can live with.
the set i used has keystone buttons on them(looks kinda silly), but a set of ebony buttons is on the way from FQMS. and they remarkably resemble schaller/ping buttons so i'll have a more original look, while drastically improving the quality of my guitar. "F" pings!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I ask a dumb question... What does "FQMS" stand for? I see that (them) referred to a lot on various guitar forums.

I wish I had known 10 years ago how easy it is to come up with new chords ... just one little finger and whamo, you have a whole new chord - amazing!

I did figure out on my own that if you slap a capo on the second fret and then play an Em, you get an F#m. Seems like lots of chords could move up the neck like that, but I can't figure out how to move the capo fast enough ...
