I've done it, and I am nowhere close to being a woman, nor do I have any desire to be one (No offense to women, I think they are the best thing God ever made). I don't think naming guitars is necessarily a woman thing. (It may be a little wierd though)(: |

But then again, my Mom is female... Which also proves Mark's observations. |

I've been playin since the 70's, have somethin'-teen guitars, and I havent had the urge to name one yet, although sometimes i do treat them like real people. I guess I do refer to them with the same adjectives sometimes.....the "trusty ole Strat", the "workhorse Les Paul", more utilitarian I guess........anyway, Who named Clapton's Strat Blackie, him or the fans???? anyone know??? |

I guess it's because they're all shaped like women, and each one has it's own special feel, sound and overall personality when they're played. I know this will sound freaky, and someone's gonna pick it up and run with it, but ... When I was stationed overseas I would fall asleep with one of my guitars laying over me, after playing quietly in the dark. I know ... they probably don't even have names for that. (but I'm sure someone here will come up with one) (: |

Mine are named "my Taylor" and "my Ovation".
The only one that gives me trouble is the one that camed pre-named: "my Lucille" doesn't sound quite right, and "Epiphone" is too much of a mouthful. But I don't want to call it just "Lucille", since that sounds like too much of an affectation.
So, for the moment, its just "my electric". |

The 87 is "Rachel's guitar", the 1537 is "Megan's guitar" (although she has never really called it that. The Ultra GS is "my electric" since I only have one electric. The 12 string is "the 12 string" and the Ute is "the Ute" although I could also call it "my Adamas" since I only have one of those. For some reason, I refer to the model numbers more than the names, probably because we do that so much on this board. |

Location: ranson,wva | since most of mine live in cases and all 12 except the adamas case are brown ive got the year and model numbers wrote on the cases. makes things easier to keep track of. the adamas is on the bed room wall,1624 and 114 are on the living room wall. the rest are in cases stashed thruout the house....jason |

Location: Wheeling, WV | here's an idea for some of you multiple guitar case labelers. for years, i've stenciled my name and phone number on the bottom of my guitar cases, as well as speaker cabs., amplifiers, PA gear, racks, etc.... a model # could be easily added. i use gold spray paint for cases with brass hardware, and brown O case, and silver paint for cases with chrome hardware. it looks nice, makes your case easily identifyable in a room full of guitars, and could possibly bring back a lost or stolen piece. lately, i've been thinking about applying a coat of clear polyurethane over the paint, to make it more difficult to remove. if anyone wants to do this, look me up, i have some good tips to speed up the job and make it come out with neat clean letters / numbers. |

Location: ranson,wva | my cases are easy to find in a pile...just look for the ones with millions of cracks and peices oh the hide missing...lol i bought sever new black cases but they just dont have that same vintage look. the case ive got for the floklore is a 1976 patriot case that is beat to hell bad but fits the guitar like a glove..if i ever find another one in good condition im gonna have to buy it....
good advice on the stencil and paint...i may just have to do something likle taht....jason |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | For marking my cases I use the new Sharpie Silver permanent marker. As long as you don't have a bunch of armorall on the case before you use it, the marker writes easily on the dark case and stays. Of course ALL paint and marker comes off easily with a little acetone, so there's really no such thing as "permanent" with paint or markers. Only carving is permanent. |
