Did everyone get what they wanted for the holidays? My "big" gift this year was a Canon digital SLR camera which I have been wanted for a while. I'm having a lot of fun with it, but my poor daughter has started to run and hide when she sees me with it. I think I've taken about a hundred shots (no exaggeration) of her since Christmas day.

John,
Great to hear that you got the Digital SLR that you wanted. I'm taking alot of picture with mine also. I'm still trying to figure out all the options/default settings.

A whole bunch of guitar parts, and more on the way...

was just like getting the deluxe erector sets and electronics kits that I used to get when I was my young geeky/nerdy self...(they used to call me "Professor" Hess)...hard to meet girls when that's your moniker.

Never been one of the "cool" guys..I preferred working on old tube stereo and mono amps..building RC model planes and playing with my first computers..(trs80 coco and a c64 then amiga), and riding unicycles, gymnastics, and circus arts/trapeze/high-wire.. Oh well.

it's been an ok holiday so far except for the deaths and funerals, the girls have made it through Christmas and Thanksgiving without a LEO being called or someone being slapped and or decked..(first time in years).

nice change.

I'm going out to ride my uni and walk the dog..

hope everyone got what they needed.

Glenn

Phil: Believe it or not, I actually read the manual ...the WHOLE manual, and I even understand quite a bit of it. LOL. I picked up a 300mm zoom lens to go with it which is really cool. Now I just have to learn how to use all of this stuff.

WOW John now I have some competition. Nikon released a G series lens line. The lenses that you saw me use are D series. With D series lenses there is a 1.5X magnification. My big lens is an 80-200mm F2.8. With my D200 that lens is now 120-300mm F5.6. My 28mm F2.8 is now 42mm. I may have a problem with wide angle group shots now.

Hey Phil, maybe I can be your assistant A/V guy! Whaddaya think? LOL. I'm in the market for a telephoto lens to take pictures of birds ("birding" is another hobby of mine), but they are way too rich for my blood. I'm keeping my eye on e-bay for a possible bargain.

I got a Intelli model IMT-500 Chromatic tuner.

It clips to the headstock and uses vibration to tune the guitar. Works really well. :)

Oh, by the way Phil. From the looks of the stuff that you brought to NE gathering, I'm a long way from competing with you.

It was allot of work. I packed up shipped 300lbs of cage and accessories, and had to make special arrangements to transport him on the plane with me, but with the help of some of the OFC, it was a red AND green Christmas at my house

Glenn - I had the parts already - I did get some of the tools to put them all together and make them look nice and shiny (courtesy of StewMac).

There is mucho family time - my wife had to go back to work today, so it's me and the kids for this week and next.

This technologically-challenged grandma received a digital camera (a fairly simple one), complete with printer for 4x6 pictures, rechargeable batteries and charger, and a memory chip. I will have to sit down and completely read everything before I point it at anything--my son and his girlfriend gave me a crash course on Monday, which of course has completely escaped me now. (Thank you, encroaching middle-age.) At least I sort of understood my old Pentax..... :(
I also got some beautiful flowers from two very special friends :) :) , pictures of my little cuties :) , new strings, and a great array of other assorted grin-givers. :D

No blue Adamas under the tree, but got 3 Hercules guitar hangers. I now have the 3 12 fretters close to each other. That allows me to get all the Ovations off the floor and I'll soon have them on 3 walls. I need a bigger room.
I also got a Dunlop cleaning kit, so now I can clean the necks and strings of the guitars I have.
I'm sitting on my main gift. My wife got me a new office chair.

A tube mic pre, a Yamaha ag-stomp, some Alaska picks, strings and the '87 on the way. It was a very good year.

Waskel, sounds like you and the mrs. subscribe to the "let's just shop for ourselves" theory. Nice going. What tube mic pre- did you get?

Not so much "shop for ourselves" as "here's a list of things I could use (ranked by importance), pick what you would love to give me". The results are (hopefully) much the same. After 28 years, we've pretty much exhausted the list of things we've "always wanted".

I got the ART Tube MP Studio V3. Not the greatest pre, but pretty good bang for the buck, and on sale to boot. I wanted to try to improve my vocal recording. Makes a nifty DI, too.

Oh, also got a nice little self-inking stamp for guitar chords. Much better than trying to draw out the first 5 frets...

I forgot that I also got 3 Behringer vocal microphones. I didn't need them, may never use them, but thought that they were something cheap that my wife could get and pretend it came from one of the other relatives. Now I'm all ready for 3 Dreamgirls to be my backup singers.
