Location: Sun City, California | Being new to this forum I did a search on the "1771LX" and only came up with a couple of results.
Is the 1771LX fairly new?
I used to own a Legend (Black, that I wished I never sold!) that had a large bowl which is why I sold it. The guitar was a very nice sounding acoustically with the OP-24 electronics. I also used to own an Applause (back in the early 80s) that I thought was a pretty good sounding guitar. About 5 years ago we bought our son a standard Balladeer (don't remember the number) that he still has to this day that I've always thought sounded really good. So, full cirlce, I'm awaiting delivery of my Red 1771LX on Tuesday and I'm hoping that maybe someone here can tell how the 1771LX compares to the older Balladeers?
Thank you. |

I haven't played enough other Ovations to give a comparitive opinion. I do prefer the Ovation to the other guitars in the same price range though.
That being said, I love my 1771LX. It came setup a little high in the action from the factory at 4/32 with 3 shims. Other than that, its perfect. Really well made.
That doesn't really answer your question, just thought I'd give my opinion. |

Location: Simpsonville, SC | Congrats on the 1771LX purchase. I have a 1778LX and can only compare it to a 1867 Legend that I also own. 1778 has a mid bowl and LX bracing, 1867 is a super shallow bowl with an A bracing (I think). The difference in the sound projection is large (1778 much loader accoustically due to bowl depth) I think I prefer the OP24 pre amp on the 1867 to the OP Pro on the 1778. Maybe I am just to simple to use the OP Pro properly. Since I don't plug in often it really doesn't matter.
WARNING: sticking around here often will give you a bad case of G.A.S. (do a search if needed)
Welcome and have fun with the 1771LX!

Sound is very subjective for sure.
I own a few dreds and a couple of "L" models and an OM so I'm hoping that the sound of the Mid Bowl somewhere in the middle of the mix.
One of my guitars has a B-band A.5 and another has a Fishman Matrix 11. I also have a guitar that has a Fishman Prefix and another with a K&K Pure Western but, I do believe that the Ovation electronics are the best in the world today.
So, I'm looking forward to comparing the 1771LX against the other guitars.
Thank you! |
