Hello, I have never posted a message on any site ever so I'm lost trying to figure this out so maybe you can help me out
I am the original owner of an 1973 acoustic/electric legend model 1617 serial number 011624 with a natural finish. I see there is a list of owners with their model guitar and serial numbers but I haven't been able to figure out how to access the list to add mine.Also while looking over the data dealing with serial numbers and date of manufacture I see it skips from 1972 to 1974. According to the info on the Ovation Guitar site my number shows it was built in 1973 so I wondered why the OFC site skips 1973. Another odd feature that I noticed on my Legend is that there is no button near the neck for a strap. Back in 1973 when I was singing in small clubs I was always seated so I decided not to have a button installed. As I was one of the very few people to own an Ovation at that time my musician friends were very curious about my "plastic guitar". Not surprisingly once they played it many of them wanted one. What I noticed when two of my friends bought identical Ovations was that their guitars had a button near the neck for a strap. So I have always wondered if mine was a fluke or if it just made it more rare. Mr. Ovation what do you think? Can you help post this information or register the serial number in your database...? Serial Number registration: If you are talking about http://www.ovationgallery.com/
That is a privately run site, run by Dave (Standingovation) so things happen there when it happens.
The serial number list on the OFC... Talk to Al or Miles or whomever made the original.
Strap Button: If you ordered the Legend without a strap button, that is why it doesn't have one.
If yours has the Big Neck Block, you can just add a regular strap button... so long as you screw it in near the neck heel into the Big Neck Block.
My 1114 and 1121 both have the strap buttons installed that way.
As opposed to using the "mollie" arrangement to attach the strap button through the bowl material.

| thanks for the information , I honestly don't remember the option of buttons for a strap to attach to...They put one on the normal spot at the bottom of the guitar so I was surprised that there wasn't a second one near the neck, guess it was like buying a new car back then, everything was an option like a radio or windshield washers... |

Location: Sydney, Australia | If you do screw it into the neck block, I find it works better if you install it on the lower (i.e. treble) side. That way the strap forces the guitar into a more upright position when you play standing up. |
