For some reason this tour is not being promoted much at all. We saw her and them last night at the beautiful Egyptian Theater in Ogden. No photography allowed once the show started, so no pics to post here. Ethel is a new age string quartet of 2 violins, a viola, and a carbon fiber cello.

They played a variety of stuff, mostly new age and a few of Kaki's recent pieces from her album Glow. Two hours total, with one short intermission.

If you're a Kaki fan or an Ethel fan, this is a good show. They complement each other's styles very well.

Fly, I'm glad you got to see Kaki play with the string quartet, and I'm glad you enjoyed the show. She has really had to bone up on her music theory to keep up with them. I'm really proud of her for accepting the challenge of playing in ensemble with serious classical string musicians.

They have a 3 day break in the schedule, and while the quartet went on to Cincinnati, she rented a car in Salt Lake City and headed south to Moab. Today she is tweeting pictures from a destination which has been a lifelong interest--Arches NP. Yesterday she hiked at Canyonlands and called me about it last night. She said it compared favorably in many ways to the Grand Canyon--remote, staggeringly beautiful and above all, evidence of the massive erosion by the Green River over hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years.

I'm going to put vacationing in this area on my personal bucket list.

Finest regards--

Dave King

Dave, my aunt and uncle have a place in Moab. It's definitely beautiful down there. If she likes mexican food she should try out Miguel's Baja Grill. Probably the best food in town.

Dave, it was fun to watch her playing Bach! She did not go into her zone or trance like she does playing her own solo stuff. When she said she had learned recently to compose using notation my daughter (21 yrs old) wondered how Kaki documents her compositions. TAB would be as lacking as notation for her style.

I saw a couple of her pics on her FaceBook this morning before I ran out the door to work. Yesterday was great weather but today it is rain and snow. If she is still out there she may see it in a whole different way today.
