Location: SE Michigan | Just curious what other's experience has been pertaining to plugged in tone and bowl depth. It would seem to me that the bowl depth wouldn't affect the sound though a PA.
Say for example we compare two LX Balladeers or Elite Ts, one with shallow bowl and the other with mid, but both with OP Pro pre-amps. Would there be a noticeable difference in amplified tone?
I have been wondering about the virtues of having a super shallow bowl exclusively for plugged in use, it just seems like it would be a very comfortable guitar to play compared to the deeper bowls. |

Location: Miami | There is definitely a difference, it's just not as big as the difference unplugged. Yes, the supershallow bowl for some of us (like myself) is the only way to gig, especially if you come from mainly playing the electric guitar. I have never heard a non-Ovation shallow guitar that can hold a candle to a (mid to high end) supershallow Ovation or Adamas, plugged or unplugged. |

Location: Spain | I love my 1868 Elite shallow bowl for gigging (I stand up) and the sound is amazing. I've never played a deep bowl so can't compare. However I've used my Takamine dread a good few times and I actually prefer the Elite sound.
Unplugged they're different animals, the Tak of course is a wooden box with a wooden box sound, the Elite sounds different, but in my opinion no worse, just different. I don't notice a huge lack of volume, sometimes my mate plays my Tak and I play the Elite, both unplugged, and I'm not drowned out, they sound good together.
Hmm...I suppose if I had to go out busking in the street (don't do that anymore, not where I live anyway) I'd grab the dread, it's just louder for a situation like that.
Hope that helps |
