Hi,

I just joined.  Thinking of buy an Ovation.  Want to make a post asking about bowl size.  I've tried an Ovation in the store and it seemed hard to hold in my lap.  Of course, there was no strap - which would make it better.

Then I saw there are 3 different bowl sizes.

So, how do you determine which bowl size a given guitar has?  I was trying used guitars.

What are the trade-offs in tone, and are there any other reasons to choose.

I'm thinking medium or super shallow might work best for me.  Think I should try them out first.

The model number will always let you know - but you need to look it up so you know which is which - the references section of this site will help there. Most people (me included) prefer the tone from a deep or contour bowl, but if you're mostly plugged in, a shallow bowl is easier to manage physically.

If you hold it properly (face vertical) then there is no sliding off your lap problem.

Welcome to the club.

Thank you Sir!It took me a while to figure out that I should post first to the Welcome Center. Whatever we need to do to defeat the spammers is good.
