Is it just me or are there others like me? I've never loosened a truss rod. It's not like I fiddle with them often (I don't) but I just gave the 1680 about a 1/3 turn last night and it improved the action markedly. Is it just because I'm really conservative with my tightening, or is this common?

I think it depends on the area and what kinds of swings you get weather wise.

I just had to adjust the action on my Ric bass cause it had gotten a bit high in the upper frets.
Took a couple hours of gently adjusting every 1/2 hour or so to dial it in perfectly.

Haven't really needed to adjust any of my acoustics but the electrics periodically.

I used to have a paudak Washburn N4. They are gorgeous but unfinished and start at around 2 grand used. Anyway I live in NW Ohio which tends to be damp, but I bought it from a bone dry place around 1500 miles away. It played great when I first got it, but I mostly play acoustic and it sat untouched for a few weeks during the rainy season. When I finally picked it up to play it, the neck was bowed so bad it was unplayable. I tried to loosen up the truss rod a quarter turn but it was so tight that it snapped like a dry twig as soon as i tried to turn it. Washburn was pretty cool about it, they felt bad but but it wasn't their mistake and the guitar was out of warrantyanyway. They charged me 700 for a new neck. It should have cost twice that as I was originally quoted

Can't beat the Pacific Northwest for even humidity.
Matter of fact, it's where most of wood grew up!
